Tips & Tricks for taking Underwater Pictures
Before a dive trip, clean and grease your camera and strobe. Pack the equipment and lens carefully. Use ziplock bags where appropriate.
When taking a picture, be still, no breathing (no bubbles), and frame the subject with a background when possible. For example, a diver would be better shot with coral behind her, rather than just open water.
Know your distances from the subject. The type of lens you use can dictate the distance. Closer pictures bring more colorful and sharper images. Taking pictures too far away lead to more 'bad' pictures.
If shooting fast moving creatures, like a shark, use faster film. For stationary (or almost stationary) subjects, use slower film and shutter speed.
Rewind your film, with lens cover closed, right after last dive. Even if partially used.
Soak camera housing and strobe in
fresh/clean water for 1 to 24 hours; longer for salt water dives.
